Lead, influence, and support the healthcare workforce.

  • Prepare and engage a diverse nursing workforce for emerging models of care.
  • Promote healthy practice environments to engage nurses and support resilience and well-being.
  • Strengthen nurse leaders’ career progression and succession planning.
  • Champion the optimal use of the workforce.

Improve health through advocacy.

  • Advance policies to optimize health outcomes and well-being of communities.
  • Influence policy development through elevating thought leaders within and beyond nursing.
  • Achieve advocacy outcomes by mobilizing diverse change agents.

Advance nursing leadership.

  • Guide and advance nursing leadership competencies.
  • Create and deliver innovative leadership development opportunities for all levels of nurse leaders.

2022-2027 Strategic Priorities

Priority 1

Lead and advocate for the nursing workforce and the future of healthcare.

Tactics:

  • Promote healthy practice environments to engage nurses and support resilience and well-being
    • Offer venues for nurses to come together ( i.e. conference, virtual events, etc.)
  • Amplify the unique voice of nurse leaders who promote health equity, diversity, and belonging in our communities
    • Diversify membership (gender/geographic/ethnic/generational)
    • Provide a forum for leaders
  • Influence policy development through elevating advocacy within and beyond nursing
    • Present WVNA/WVHA Legislative Update
    • Formulate position statements for legislative issues/topics/policy
    • Educate Membership on Legislative (i.e. provide position statements)

Priority 2

Advance and unite nurse leaders through leadership development and succession planning

Tactics:

  • Strengthen nurse leaders’ career progression and succession planning and competencies
    • Emerging Student Leader (Student membership) (2 recs from faculty/employer) invovlement in SNA, community grad/undergrad
    • Encourage certifications of nurses to promote nursing leadership competencies
    • Mentorship
  • Create and deliver innovative leadership opportunities for all levels of nurse leaders
    • Annual Conference for leadership dev.
    • Promotion of leadership dev. events
  • Lead and engage in interprofessional learning and development to drive collaborative action and outcomes
    • Collaborate with other agencies to recognize nurse leaders across the state
    • Collect data (feedback) from interprofessional partners on how to best address WVONL priorities
    • Promotion of priorities of WVONL with other interprofessional partners
